Mean Gene Okerlund hosts this look back at the scariest pay-per-view event of the Halloween season since 1989!

Our first match takes us all the way back to the first Halloween Havoc from 1989 on October 28, when WCW was still a member promotion of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). It features a Thunderdome cage match, a 30 foot wide & 30 feet tall structure (a percursor to WWE's "Hell In A Cell") featuring a young wrestler known as Sting teaming up with Ric Flair taking on the team of Terry Funk & The Great Muta! The rules state that for the match to end, the cornerman must throw the towel in for his team which would result in submission for his team. Muta is accompanied by his manager, Gary Hart, while Horseman member Flair's cornerman is fellow Horseman, Ole Anderson!

Funk and Flair have been feuding since earlier in the year when Flair reclaimed the NWA World Heavyweight Championship from rival Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat and Funk immediately challenged Flair to a match, which Flair refused, as Funk was not in the top ten contenders list, prompting an attack by Funk. Sting's rivalry with Muta also began earlier in the year, when Muta challenged Sting for the NWA Television Championship! Former World Wrestling Federation Champion Bruno Sammartino is selected as the special referee! Future WWE broadcaster Jim Ross joins Bob Caudle on commentary.

This shows the popularity and star power the promotion enjoyed at the time, as the crowd is electric for this match!

At Halloween Havoc 1990, held at the UIC Pavilion, a longtime venue for WCW during the 80s and 90s, on October 27, 1990, WCW mainstays the Nasty Boys (Knobs & Sags) challenge the Steiner Brothers (Rick & Scott) for the United States Tag Team Championship! WCW has always had a deep tag team talent roster capable of putting on excellent matches. Jim Ross once again calls the action in this match, joined by Paul E. Dangerously!

On the same card, Terror Rules the Ring as the NWA World Heavyweight Championship is at stake as Sting, who has recently been stalked by a mysterious figure from his past, known only as The Black Scorpion, must defend his title against a member of The Four Horsemen, the six foot eight Sid Vicious! Sting has always had issues with the Horsemen, and Sid is quite literally Sting's biggest challenge to date! In addition to his problems with "The Black Scorpion", Sting knows that where one Horseman is, the others can't be far behind! It's a lot of pressure on the mind of the Champion going into this bout!

At the 1991 Halloween Havoc coming from the UTC Arena in Chattanooga, TN, WCW unveils two new innovations. First is the "Chamber of Horrors", a cage match where the goal is to place a member of the opposing team in the electric chair and turn on the current! Second is the "Refer-eye Camera", a helmet mounted camera worn by match official Nick Patrick so that the fans watching at home on pay-per-view can see what Patrick sees. This match will pit Big Van Vader, Abdullah the Butcher, Cactus Jack and The Diamond Studd (Scott Hall) against Sting, El Gigante and the Steiner Brothers! Originally Barry Windham was scheduled to participate, but Arn Anderson and Larry Zbyszko attacked Windham outside earlier in the day, slamming his wrist in the door of his car as he pulled up to the arena! Jim Ross is joined in the broadcast booth by Tony Schiavone.

The fright continues at Halloween Havoc 1992, held October 25, 1992 at the Civic Center in Philadelphia, PA, where Sting will have to "Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal" against the returning Jake "The Snake" Roberts! Jesse "The Body" Ventura joins Jim Ross in the broadcast booth for this match, unsanctioned by WCW! Several matches are on a giant wheel, and whatever match type comes up on the wheel after it is spun is what Sting will have to wrestle, so he has to prepare for any one of a dozen different matches!

By Halloween Havoc 1993, WCW had withdrawn its membership in the NWA, and the belt that once represented the NWA World Heavyweight Championship now represents WCW International as that organisation's World Heavyweight Championship. The Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, LA is the venue for WCW Halloween Havoc 1993, which was held on October 24, 1993. The WCW International World Heavyweight Championship is on the line as Champion RAVISHING RICK RUDE defends his title against multi-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion, "Nature Boy" Ric Flair! To ensure fairness in this contest, while Randy Anderson is the designated official INSIDE the ring, Terry Taylor has been appointed as a special enforcer for the match, and is posted OUTSIDE the ring! Jesse "The Body" Ventura joins Tony Schiavone on commentary this time.

It's 1994, and Hulk Hogan has joined WCW! Halloween Havoc takes place on October 23 from Detroit's Joe Louis Arena. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair has his hands full as he goes up against Hulk Hogan (with Jimmy Hart in his corner) in a career vs. career match inside a steel cage! Flair has Sensuous Sherri in his corner, and Mr. T is designated as the special enforcer for this bout!

Detroit's Joe Louis Arena hosts Halloween Havoc for the second year in a row, which features possibly the most unusual match of all time! The Giant from Taskmaster Kevin Sullivan's Dungeon of Doom battles Hulk Hogan in a Sumo monster truck match, where the two monster trucks compete to push each other out of the Sumo circle! Although the actual wrestling event took place in the Joe Louis Arena, the roof of nearby Cobo Hall serves as the venue for this event of "monster" proportions! Bobby "The Brain" Heenan and Eric Bischoff are joined on commentary by "Bigfoot" monster truck creator Bob Chandler. Hogan and the Giant would meet in the ring later in the night. Interestingly enough, Hogan wore his traditional red and yellow gear for the monster truck challenge, but changes to black for the actual match.

In 1996, Hulk Hogan has gone "Hollywood" and joined the New World Order! It doesn't matter to "Macho Man" Randy Savage, however, as he and Hogan have had a rivalry going back many years. Savage would love nothing more than to take Hogan's
WCW World Heavyweight Championship from him as they battle over the belt at Halloween Havoc 1996 on October 27, 1996 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, which would be the home of Halloween Havoc until WCW folded.

The only person to have a rivalry with Hogan longer than Savage is the rowdy Scot, Rowdy Roddy Piper, who takes on Hogan in a steel cage at Halloween Havoc 1997 on October 26, 1997! It's time for Hollywood to get rowdy! Will he pay the Piper?
