You are buying a pre-viewed, ORIGINAL VHS video, A&E The Unreal Story of Professional Wrestling.
Former Tonight Show host Steve Allen narrates possibly the first modern documentary on pro wrestling that attempts to tie past to present in a sport where the past is frequently forgotten and even more frequently rewritten.
Allen makes the connections from the sport practised by former President Abraham Lincon and the Greco-Roman Olympians to the depression-era grapplers such as Frank Gotch & George Hackenschmidt, legendary shooters such as 6-time former National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) World Heavyweight Champion Lou Thesz, to modern stars such as Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Undertaker.
Great historical interviews with Thesz; promoter/historian Sheldon Goldberg; Hulk Hogan; Mike Champman (head of the International Wrestling Institute and Museum in Waterloo, IA); Dave Meltzer (of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter); Verne Gagne; Sgt. Slaughter; plus the late stars Fabulous Moolah; Killer Kowalski (who trained Triple H); and Classy Freddie Blassie among others.
Allen does an excellent job tying together all of the different eras of the business, offering explanations as to the reasons for the changes in the business over the years.
Great clips of Dallas Page with Jay Leno, Karl Malone, & Kevin Eubanks. Also, Mick Foley's King of the Ring 1998 match with Undertaker; Arnold Skaaland (from the Piledriver video, available from us!); match clips of depression era stars such as Antonino Rocca & Gorgeous George Wagner; novelty matches such as midgets and women; moving on to the modern era cage match.
An excellent film for the newer wrestling fan who might not have an idea of the rich history and tradition of the sport, and less gritty than Beyond the Mat (also available from us).
The film ends in late 1997, just prior to the legendary Survivor Series (also available from us), focusing on the WWF's "gang warfare" era, with Faarooq & the Nation of Domination; Disciples of Apocalypse; Team Canada; etc.
Although for the modern era, it focuses mainly on the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE), it is still an incredible and enlightening film.
